"Jingwei" - November 2019

It's about Nu-Waa, the daughter of the Chinese Emperor of Flames. Her irrepressible curiosity eventually drives her to the open sea, where she is swallowed up by the suddenly rising waves. The emperor, his wife and the whole entourage search for her everywhere - when they finally arrive at the beach and see the stormy sea, they suspect what has happened. Suddenly, a small bird breaks out of the waves and circles above them. The Flame Emperor recognizes in the bird the spirit of his daughter, names it "Jingwei" and instructs it to watch out, so that such a fate should not happen again. Since then, the bird has been flying steadily from the beach to the sea, throwing stones and sticks into the sea. Jingwei meets another bird on the way and they become lovers - their many children do the same - they throw stones and sticks into the sea, so that such a fate should not be repeated again.

This illustration is part of a new project of mine, I want to illustrate Chinese myths, fairy tales and legends - as a European, in my own style - and collect them in book form, for this project is currently still looking for a publisher.

“Jingwei” - November 2019

Es geht um Nu-Waa, die Tochter des chinesischen Flammen-Kaisers. Ihre unbändige Neugierde treibt sie schließlich aufs offene Meer, wo sie von den plötzlich aufkommenden Wellen verschlungen wird. Der Kaiser, seine Frau und das ganze Gefolge suchen sie überall - als sie schließlich am Strand ankommen und die stürmische See sehen, ahnen sie, was passiert ist. Plötzlich bricht ein kleiner Vogel aus den Wellen und kreist über ihnen. Der Flammen-Kaiser erkennt in dem Vogel den Geist seiner Tochter, nennt ihn “Jingwei” und beauftragt ihn damit, aufzupassen, auf dass sich solch ein Schicksal nicht mehr wiederholen solle. Der Vogel fliegt seitdem stetig vom Strand übers Meer und wirft dort Steine und Stöcke ins Meer. Jingwei trifft unterwegs auf einen anderen Vogel und sie werden ein Liebespaar - ihre vielen Kinder tun es ihnen gleich - sie werfen Steine und Stöcke ins Meer, auf dass sich solch ein Schicksal nicht mehr wiederholen solle.

Diese Illustration ist Teil eines neuen Projektes von mir, ich möchte chinesische Mythen, Märchen und Sagen illustrieren - als Europäer, in meinem eigenen Stil - und in Buchform sammeln, für dieses Projekt wird derzeit noch ein Verlag gesucht.
